Introduction
Burger Collection launches a long-term exhibition platform and research project, developed and realized with 1a space, an artist-run organization in Hong Kong. I Think It Rains, the first exhibition, opens in May 2013 at the heritage site of the Cattle Depot Artist Village in To Kwa Wan, Kowloon. I Think It Rains, will feature works and performances by some 20 artists and writers from Hong Kong and abroad. Centering on installation and video works, the exhibition will explore time, history, and artistic process. It represents a further installment of the Quadrilogy, the Burger Collection’s exhibition and research program, curated by Daniel Kurjaković.
I Think It Rains is plotted as a platform for sustainable activities. The project will explore one possible mode of collaboration, connecting a local and an international organization, both mindful of the cultural specificity of Hong Kong and of contemporary currents in artistic practice. The collaboration aims to proliferate and branch out to a larger circle of artists and writers in Hong Kong and the region, as well as the local community or academia.
Apart from the exhibition, some of the further components of the yearlong activities are artist residencies, panels and workshops, performances, a magazine as well as the production of ephemera and a closing catalog documenting the first year. The title I Think It Rains is borrowed from a poem by Nigerian poet Wole Soyinka pointing to some of the motifs of the project: a sense of physical actuality, of details and multiplicity, of a continuous present and of a porous quality of space.
